Nursing and Health Services
Our school follows the spirit of Hong Chi Association "FOR people with intellectual disabilities" to provide comprehensive services for children with intellectual disabilities. Our nurse focuses on the health and well-being of students, providing appropriate nursing services and promoting health messages to students, parents, and teachers.
Aims:
1. Provide professional nursing services to take care of students' health and ensure proper treatment for injuries or illnesses.
2. Increase students' awareness of healthy living and help them apply it in their daily lives.
3. Foster positive attitudes towards physical and mental development among parents and teachers.
Service Scope:
1. Assessment: Conduct health assessments for new students based on their medical history and current physical condition, develop appropriate nursing plans, regularly review students' health, and communicate with teachers and parents to update and follow up on students' health and growth needs.
2. Treatment and Care: Provide ongoing nursing assessments and handle sudden illnesses or injuries. Provide parents with health education and advice, and accompany students to the hospital for treatment when necessary. In case of specific health incidents, the school nurse will refer the student to a doctor for follow-up. The school nurse also assists with and follows up on students' medication prescribed by doctors.
3. Health Checks: Arrange for students to have dental and general health checks at the Department of Health clinics. Additionally, the school nurse arranges for school athletes to have physical examinations to prevent accidents during sports due to health issues.
4. School Environment and Food Hygiene: Monitor the nutritional balance and quality of school lunches, hold regular meetings with lunch service providers and parent representatives to follow-up on the quality of school lunches. Regularly check the cleanliness of the school environment to avoid stagnant water and prevent the breeding of mosquitoes and other insects.
5. Promotion of Student Health Education: Write articles for the school newsletter, hold webinars and morning assembly promotions to promote healthy eating and exercise. Additionally, a fitness program is organized for overweight students to raise awareness of weight management among students and parents. Furthermore, the school nurse holds sex education groups to teach students about the changes and hygiene during puberty and strengthen their problem-solving skills regarding sexual issues. The school nurse also arranges health seminars for students and parents to increase their knowledge of health.
6. Infection Control: Follow the guidelines of the Centre for Health Protection and the Education Bureau to develop preventive measures. Regularly monitor the risk of infectious disease outbreaks in school and take preventive and control measures.
7. Collaborative Training: Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other staff to hold webinars and train health ambassadors for morning assembly promotions, increasing students' awareness of personal hygiene and healthy living and boosting their confidence.
